Static isolation can reduce exposure for a legacy WordPress installation, but it is not a substitute for supported software, security updates, or migration planning.
An old WordPress core version, an unsupported theme, or a plugin that stopped receiving updates is still running the exact same code either way. What isolation changes is how much of that code the public internet can reach: behind Zero-WordPress Mode (Pro), only approved routes stay reachable, the rest is blocked before it ever executes.
Anything still reachable — the routes you actually need, like a contact form bridge — runs the same outdated code it always did. Containment shrinks the window, it doesn't close it, and it does nothing for vulnerabilities in whatever stays approved.
Sometimes "update it" isn't a realistic option: the host is frozen on an old PHP version, the site runs on a theme or page-builder layout nobody left maintains, the original developer is gone, or there's simply too much custom work sitting on top to risk a major version jump without real testing and a budget for it. None of that makes the exposure any less real — if anything, it's exactly the situation isolation is most worth using for.
Static Shield's own requirements are built with that in mind rather than adding to the problem: it runs in a reduced-feature Legacy Safe Mode back to WordPress 5.2 and PHP 7.0 — the same PHP floor a lot of stuck installs are already sitting on. Legacy Safe Mode still gets the static build engine, cloud sync and monitoring, Zero-WordPress Mode, and Vault Mode; what it doesn't include is the Hybrid Compatibility Layer, the Form Bridge, the Discovery Bridge, and the Shield Bar admin-bar integration, since those assume a newer WordPress/PHP runtime to hook into safely.
Treat isolation as buying time and reducing immediate risk while you plan an actual upgrade or migration — not as a reason to leave an unsupported installation running indefinitely.
Static Shield Lite is free to install and inspects your actual WordPress install, not just the public surface.
